Application Method

How to apply to Damage Company

The only way to apply to Damage Company, for World of Warcraft, is to create a new thread in the WoW Recruitment forum, following the template in the sticky at the top of the board.

What if I talk to someone in game about joining

They still cannot and should not invite you into the guild until you've posted your application in the forums and have been approved.

Why do I have to apply in the forums?

This is to ensure that we are able to selectively scan for troublesome applicants. During the process, we check your armory link, your previous guild(s) and you're general standing on the server. If you happen to be undesirable, a guild hopper or have a bad reputation, chances are you will not be accepted into Damage Company regardless of how well you may play your class.

Rules and Expectations

Preface

This charter should be read and understood by all Guild members. If you have any questions or remarks do not hesitate to contact an Officer or the Guild Master.

Mission Statement

Damage Company. is a World of Warcraft guild on several realms, Horde and Alliancer. Our focus is building a strong guild(s) with good relationships through good recruiting and teamwork. We are always looking for members of all classes who wish to positively contribute to our guild.

Organization

Leadership - Officers and Guild Master

The following is a list of requirements for the Officers and Guild Master:
  • Be Respectful - not only of the Guild Members, but of everyone that they meet in game.
  • Willing to help - Help out around the guild whenever you can.
  • Willing to listen - Help Guild Members with their problems and listen to new ideas.
  • Communicate - Talk in officer chat and guild chat, communicating the problems and ideas that you've heard.
  • Knowledgeable - No one knows everything, but you should still be have a good knowledge of the game.
  • Committed – Officers should be committed to the well being and advancement of the Guild.
  • Positive attitude - Officers are expected to have a positive attitude in guild chat and with the Guild Members. Doubts and concerns may be expressed in officer chat or through the correct communication channels (e.g. forums).
  • Officers are role models for the new and younger members of the guild. Officers should act as we would like all Guild Members to act.
  • Abuse of the officers’ powers is not permitted. If you feel an officer is abusing their power, please inform the Guild Master.
To be promoted to the rank of Officer you must be nominated by an Officer and then seconded by another Officer. This will initiate a vote, with the final decision to be made by the Guild master.

Ranks

  • Private

The rank of Private is assigned to anyone who joins the guild. This rank will persist for 2 weeks (actual playing time) within the guild. This is your trial period that will determine if you mix well with the guild and if you are a good addition to Damage Company. During this time, we will get to know you as you will get to know us. You may participate in guild functions and events but will have no access to raid loot, guild bank or items reserved for higher rank members.

  • Corporal

All persons that have passed their 2 week trial period will be promoted to an Corporal. This is not 2 weeks after you have joined the guild but rather 2 consecutive weeks of playing with the guild and participating with the guild. This included convesation in guild chat, grouping with others (regardless of rank) and contributing to the over-all growth and prosperity of the guild. Corporals do not have access to guild bank items, funding or other things that the guild has reserved for higher ranks.

  • Sergeant

To gain the rank of Sergeant and achieve a low-ranking officer position, you must complete a series of unique quests that will be catered to your level, class and abilities. These tasks must be done within a set time frame. If the quests given requires you to attain items - you must farm for them and not purchase them on the auction house. If you are found to have purchased them, you're rank will be imediately revoked. As a Sergeant, you will have the ability to invite others to the guild. You will be an officer and as such will be expected to conduct yourself in a manner that best represents the members of Damage Company.

  • Lieutenant

To gain the rank of Lieutenant, again you must complete a series of unique quests that will be catered to your level and your class. As with the Sergeant rank quests, the Lt rank quests apply the same rules and proceedures. Your duties as a Lieutenant will include scheduling guild functions such as instance runs, conducting recruit interviews, scheduling raids for MC, BWL, UBRS, LBRS, AQ20, AQ40 and NAXX. You will also be responsible for resolving any disputes between guild members that they may have.

  • Captain

  • As with the previous two (2) officer ranks, you must complete a more difficult set of unique quests that will be given to you by a higher ranking officer. You will have a specific time limit to complete these tasks and the final task must be presided by a higher ranking officer to witness the completion. As a Captain, you're responsibilities will include those of a Lieutenant and; but not limited to, Alliance Guild Relations, scheduling Officer Meetings and conducting them as well, weekly guild progress reports to be posted in the officer forums. As a Captain, you have an integeral role within the guild and have to exert true leadership.

The following Officer ranks are appointed by the Guild Master <General> with the approval of the Officers <Colonel & Major>.

  • Major

The rank of Major is only given to those that have earned the right to be a high-ranking officer in the guild. Trustworthiness, loyalty and a proven record of assisting everyone in the guild without being biased. As well, a proven track record of steady recruitment of quality members (not just numbers). This rank can only be attained by a vote from other Major's and Colonels. This rank cannot be requested or discussed with other Majors or Colonels and is up to the descression of Major, Colonel and General to decide whom will recieve the rank.

  • Colonel

This is the Assistant Guild Master rank. Only those that have proven themselves to be the utmost trustworthy with the guild controls, recruitment, assistance and overall guild status are given this rank. Only the General (Guild Master) can give this rank to anyone and is up to the descression of the other Assistant GMs (Colonel) and the GM (General) to decide whom is deserving of this rank.

  • General (aka Guild Master)

The rank of General contains all of the rights and priviledges of a commanding officer. In addition, the General may veto any action put in place by officers. They are the only person that can change raiding schedules.

The General serves as long as he or she desires, and a successor will be named by all officers of the Guild only when the General has decided to resign.

Note: Since the guild is a complete democratic structure, all members with the rank of Corporal or better will have a chance to vote on any guild decision via the forums voting system. If you haven't registered on the forums, then you cannot vote (provided you have aquired the access to vote). The General can veto any vote that is place and make a commanding decision based upon any mitigating situations that would warrant and imediate decision.

Recruitment

The reading of this 'charter', also known as 'Guild Rules' is a requirement. To join the guild all persons are required to register on the forums and post in the "WoW Recruitment " thread. There is a template to follow which is required. Friends, family members or regular joes get equal treatment in this respect and all potential members must be questioned by either an officer or Guild Master prior to recieving a guild invite.

Communication

  • The main means of communicating with each other is the forum. Use them to tell the rest about your game experiences, to post screenshots, to form a party to do instances, to plan raids, etc. and to check for news from the Guild Master, Officers, or others. Check it often! The forum address is: http://www.damagecompany.com/forums/
  • We expect our members to adhere to the forum rules.
  • We also have our own website. The website address is: http://www.damagecompany.com/
  • We use Ventrilo so we can talk with other guild members while in game. This speeds up playing and increases the success of partying. To use Teamspeak you need a headset with a decent microphone and the Ventrilo client which can be downloaded at http://www.ventrilo.com or http://www.damagecompany.com downloads area. The info for the Ventilo server will be given to you in game.

Guild Events

  • Members can organize events like Instance runs etc. It is expected that Members try to get as involved as possible with these events if they have characters suitable for them.
  • Guild events such as raids, world pvp and attunements/keys will be scheduled by Guild Officers, Class Leads, and the Guild Master only.
  • All members will have access to GEM (Guild Event Manager) and all raid events will require that if you want to attend it - you must have it. GEM will also allow members to schedule groups for which they need or want a group for.

Behavior

  • It is expected that all members of the Guild treat each other with respect.
  • Continuous use of so-called ‘leet-speak’ or foreign languages is not encouraged, try to use (standard) English in the guild channel. Bad language is tolerated, but if taken to excess or if members complain about it, the offender will be asked to moderate their language. Continued excessive swearing can ultimately lead to disciplinary action. Also bear in mind that our members come from different backgrounds and all ages races and sexes.
  • If you need help with item trading or other dealings in the guild, feel free to ask an Officer for assistance.
  • Cooperation is something we pride ourselves on. We wish this tradition to continue. It is not expected higher level characters give up too much time to help out the lower level characters, however, help is always appreciated and reciprocated.

Partying Raids and Instances

  • Agree to a Leader. The Leader is the one who organizes the run as it progresses, he or she is not a dictator, remember you are supposed to be cooperating. However, listen to the leader if his requests are reasonable.

Picking a leader does not apply to official guild parties or raids as the leader will be picked by the Officers.

  • It is expected that all members of a party involving Guild Members behave in the spirit of the game.
  • Loot rules must be established before the group gets involved in the coming adventure. Examples of Looting Systems are: Need before Greed, Roll on BoE, Pass on BoP, DKP etc. Please discuss the matter extensively beforehand if there is the intention to use a “non-standard” system.

Loot rules for official guild parties will be determined by the Officers or Party Leader ahead of time.

  • Members are expected not to pick unnecessary fights with people from outside the Guild. However, should the behavior of an external person in a party/raid be utterly intolerable (e.g. ninja-looting, verbal abuse), all members are encouraged to stick together, and, if appropriate, to warn the Guild as a whole against these persons.

Loot Rules

Instances

  • 5 man instances will be on a need or greed loot system.
  • All members of the party will pass on any BOP item that drops. After all members have passed, a roll will follow for classes that can use the item. If no class can use is present or declines the item, a roll will follow for purposes of sharding/dusting, vendoring or otherwise use at the descression of member that wins the roll.
  • Items that are quest specific eg: Frayed Abomination Stitching which is used in several quests, said item will be rolled on by those that have the quest. If no person has the quest, item will be rolled on for future use.
  • Further rules will be amended as needed and seen necessary.

Raids

While this proves to be the most controversial topic with all guilds, Damage Company, will modify these as necessary to ensure that all members are content with settings. We currently use a DKP system (EQDKP), but may omit the use of it until the guild grows in such a size that DKP is a requirement.

  • Looting will be on a Master Looter with threshold set to Rare when dealing with trash and bosses.
  • The Loot Master (raid leader) will determine when items drop, which classes will roll for each item. This will be announced in Ventrilo when the Raid Leader is ready to recieve rolls.
  • Only the classes that the Loot Master has requested rolls from can roll on items; unless otherwised said by Loot Master.
  • Any class that recieves an item that they cannot use, that is BOP (bind on pickup) will recieve a warning on first infraction. Second infraction they will be removed from the raid.
  • If person is removed from the raid continues previous actions upon their next raid, they will be bared from any guild raid events for a period of 5 raids.
  • Damage Company does not tolerate 'ninja' looters. Any person that is found quilty of being a 'ninja looter' will promptly be removed from the raid and the guild.

Resources

  • If possible, let all people in a party skill up on resources (multiple players can level from the same vein/herb etc.) and share the actual resources gathered (taking turns).
  • Items can be made available to the Guild under terms that the item owner deems fair and can be negotiated between members as they see fit. If necessary an Officer or GM can join in the negotiations on a channel to ensure that things stay fair. If especially rare or epic items are found (e.g. Hide of the Beast), members are encouraged to first find a potential recipient/buyer among our own members.
  • If an item is bought outside the Guild (Vendor, AH) or otherwise has caused the owner a cost it is considered only fair that the Member who receives that item repays the costs to the person making it available.
  • There is no reason why trading for profit amongst Guild members cannot happen, just be fair about things with each other. Tradeskill items which can be made without a cooldown should be traded at cost; if the materials are supplied the item will be free. Members are encouraged, but certainly not obligated, to share looted items of relatively modest value (trade-goods, green items) for free.
  • If you have become the owner of an item through an in-guild exchange this does not give you the right to use it as you wish. If you say you will use an item another Member is about to give you for free then selling it at the AH immediately afterwards will be considered a serious breech of the Charter.

Disputes and Arguments between Members

  • We are all human and we will, at some point, disagree with each other. All arguments should be handled discretely. This means no spamming guild with insults, accusations etc. All arguments should be taking to private channels (email, PM's, /w, /p) as soon as possible.
  • If a problem can not be resolved please bring it to the attention of the appropriate GM or Officers as soon as possible.
  • Under no circumstances are arguments to be carried on using the Forums. This causes more problems between Members and makes the Guild look bad. The same rule applies on IRC, Ventrilo or Teamspeak or any other place where the disagreement can be viewed publicly.
  • The GM and officers have the final word in any dispute between Members.

Sanctions

We are not a guild that wants to police its members. We hope to use this section only rarely, but any breach can be reported to the Guild Master and/or Officers who will deal with the matter.
  • The Officers are responsible for deciding how to deal with Members who break Charter rules.
  • Officers have complete freedom of action and can warn, fine (as reparations, in case of breaches related to money or items), demote or remove Members as they see fit. Immediate removal from the Guild will only occur in the gravest of circumstances. If possible, the breaches should be discussed by several Officers before the more severe measures of demotion or removal are taken.
  • Breaches by initiates will face a lower level of tolerance than those of full members; they may be removed without consultation if their actions make clear they don’t share the general guild spirit.
  • If problems are related to an item, the class of an item (rare, epic) will be taken into account.
  • The Guild Officers have the right to use their judgement concerning anything that is not covered in the Guild Charter.

Unforseen Amendments

  • As before, the Guild Master has the final say. An Officer is not allowed to deviate from this charter or enforce rules not explicitly mentioned herein without consulting the Guild Master first, except under extreme circumstances.
  • The Guild reserves the right to change the contents of the Charter at anytime it is deemed necessary to do so. Agreement between the Officers and Guild Master is sufficient for such changes.

DKP System

Damage Company Dkp Rules

We currently use a EQDKP system, with some modified rules. The rules and/or DKP system can change with each realms request. The following are the principal outlines that the Guildmaster and Officers are to follow. Raids will form 30 minutes before scheduled raid start. It is suggested that you are online, with character you signed up with, have mana pots, health pots, elixirs, potions, reagents and repairs completed before getting summoned.

Points Earned, how they're awarded

  • 5 Points awarded for signing up and being on time, repaired with reagents needed.
  • 3 Points for guild boss first kill
  • 1 Point awarded for 2nd and beyond kill (including farm)
  • 2 Points awarded for completing the raid (entire duration)
  • 1 Point for being available on standby, entire duration of raid
  • -1 Point for leaving raid before completion, or raid leader calling it
  • -2 Points for being AFK longer than 5 minutes, or unscheduled break period of time. Raid Leader will initiate 3 ready checks during break times. At 3rd ready check, all should be ready - those that report AFK will be deducted -2 DKP
  • -2 Points for signing up, but not showing up
DKP earned during that session (raid day/time) cannot be spent within the same session. All DKP is calculated at the end of raid, when raid leader calls it.

Spending DKP Earned

Any and all participants in the raid may bid on any item(s) that may drop. We expect everyone to know their class well enough to know what they can and cannot use (equipable items). The master looter will have discretion over items that will be bid upon as well. Players will wisper the Master Looter, or other assigned person to recieve bids. Master looter cannot recieve bids on items they would otherwise bid on. When bidding on an item, you must also inform the Master looter (or person recieving bids) if the item is used for your main set or off set. (ie: Druid is currently spec resto, item that drops is for feral - this would be for an off-set). Main set bids take priority over off-set bids, regardless if you have more DKP than the winning bidder.

In the event that all persons in raid pass, item will be passed to a designated enchanter to be disenchanted. Shards will not be rolled upon, they will be banked for use for the rest of the guild.

Patterns that require a tradeskill to use will be rolled upon by only those that can use the item imediately. Upon recieving the item, person that recieves item must imediately learn new pattern/recipe. Failure to do so will result in an infraction. Patterns/Recipies that persons either already have learned, that are BOE will be opened for rolling by all persons using the standard /roll. Winning person can chose to vendor, AH or learn at a later time. In the event that a BOP pattern/recipe drops and none roll/want it, pattern/recipe will be opened to all partipants for vendoring using the standard /roll.

Disputes Concerning Loot and/or DKP

First and foremost, we police ourselves with several checkpoints. Each officer is responsible to ensure that the other officer(s) are performing their duties responsibly with the best interest of the guild as a whole in mind. All disputes must follow the chain of command and carried out either on the forums, private messages (forums), private messages (game), emails (game and out of game). It is suggested to use the forums PM system as those messages can be logged for further verification by Guild Master and/or other officers.

If you have a dispute concerning your DKP earned/spent, please speak directly with the Master Looter via whisper in game and follow up with a private message via the forums. DKP can be resolved outside the game as well as inside.

If your dispute is concerning loot, you had your chance to bid - if you lost, it's your loss. If you lost due to a DKP error, we're very sorry and will try to correct those errors ASAP as well as award the winning DKP bid to you as consolation, provided there is evidence it was our DKP error.

Disciplinary Actions
While we hope that we never have to enforce these, there will be situations and times that will call for action to be taken. These are the documented, officially sanctioned actions that can and will be carried out by officers.

First Offense

Upon the discretion of the officer(s), after fully investigating the infraction against reported member, a verbal warning and written warning will be filed with the member. This will go in their permanent jacket that is stored on the Damage Company site, for view of all officers.

Second Offense

After full investigation against reported member, written warning will be filed in members permanent jacket. Additionally, offending member will recieve a demotion in guild rank, be barred from raiding for the period of 1 week (entirely) and recieve a -50 DKP.

Third Offense

After full investigation, member will be ejected from the guild with due haste. Officer ejecting member will confer with offending member via PM informing them of their removal. If offending member is offline, they will be removed and sent an in-game email informing them of the decision. Forum membership and rights will be revoked prior to ejection.
